Friendship and Valentines Day!

Hello Banana's Families,

Over the last couple of weeks have been exploring our friendship unit! We have discussed ways that we can be better friends, learned about our friends likes and dislikes, and continued to practice ways to treat our friends with kindness. We also had SO MUCH FUN celebrating Valentines day with our friends! Take a look at what we have been up to!

In the block center the friends worked together to construct various projects. The friends took turns building towns for people and animals, castles, and towers. They also loved building with the blocks that had their friends pictures on them!

In the sensory table the friends created a "friendship soup!" Each friend was given an ingredient for the soup and added their materials to the table.

In the table toys/math center, the friends practiced sorting and making patterns. They were encouraged to sort various hearts by their colors and designs. They also used these hearts to copy, extend, and/or create their own patterns.

The science center may have been our favorite center of all for this unit! The friends worked together to create pyramids and towers with the cups that were added to the table. It was a joy to watch the friends communicate when building and work through their frustrations together when the cups would fall!

Our dramatic play center was transformed into a post office. In our post office the children were encouraged to mail letters to their friends and families. They had the best time writing the letters, putting them in envelopes, stamping them, and putting them in the mail. While playing in the center the friends took on various roles in the post office. We had so much fun playing in this center that we forgot to take pictures!

In the literacy center, our friends continued to practice building words. They matched the letters on the word card and used the pictures to help them spell and read the words.

We were very busy in our art center during this unit! The friends created their own designs and pictures to be added to our friendship quilt that is hanging in our classroom. Our friends also worked together with a peer to create a friendship picture. The two friends discussed and planned what they wanted to include in their drawings.

We had the best day celebrating Valentines Day with our friends! They showed so much love and joy while exchanging their valentines!

We are sad to see this fun unit come to a close but are looking forward to learning about Community Helpers next!
