Winter

 Hello parents,

It is hard to believe that we are already through one month in the new year. We have had so much FUN exploring the season of Winter! Take a look at what we have been up to!

In the block center we have explored play with various winter activities, our most favorite being the igloos that we built and shoveling "snow".

In the table toys center we have engaged in various learning activities with shapes, counting, and patterns. The friends matched various shapes to create a snowflake, engaged in a shape matching game, and used unifix cubes to count the length and width of snowflakes. The friends also created and extended AB, ABB, and ABC patterns using different colored mittens.

In the science center the friends used Styrofoam ("ice") and Popsicle sticks to create igloos, snowflakes, icicles, and so much more.

In the art center we added different materials to the table for the children to engage in creative play. They used stamps on aluminum foil to create a wintry scene, created winter hats with construction paper, used various materials to create a winter collage, and used paper plates and cotton balls to create a polar bear.

In the literacy center the friends worked on upper case and lower case letter recognition. They used various activities to match the upper and lower case letters that we have learned about so far this school year!

Our dramatic play center was transformed into an ice skating rink! The children engaged in play with the ice skates, took on various roles in the ice skating rink, and practiced many skills as an ice skater and hockey player!

The friends were so surprised and excited to see the left over snow on the playground after our snow days! They had a blast playing in the snow with their friends!

We have had so much fun engaging in play with all of our winter activities! We are looking forward to our next unit on Friendship! I will post another blog at the end of that unit!

Have a great weekend,

Suzannah and Lindsay
