Community Helper: Construction Workers

Hello Banana's Families,

We have finally finished our Community Helper theme by learning and exploring what Construction Workers do to help us in our community. We have had so much fun learning about this occupation! 

Take a look at what we have been up to!

During this unit, the friends engaged in a couple of activities in the table toys/math center. They used shapes to build various structures and pictures and used our blocks to build patterns!

We added cups and Popsicle sticks to the science table for the friends to engage in building activities. The friends favorite thing to construct was bridges and enjoyed testing their cars across the bridges that they built.


Our dramatic play center was transformed into a construction site! We added various materials to the center for the children to engage in building structures, remodeling the doll house, drawing designs and blueprints and so much more!


We have been really busy in our art center throughout this unit! The friends used building blocks with paint and stencils with pencils to create their own designs and blueprints. We also recreated the story "The Three Little Pigs." We talked about how the pigs were construction workers in their community and worked to build houses for themselves and friends. The friends used different materials to recreate the houses that the pigs built in the story.







In the literacy center, the friends worked together to build letters. Their favorite thing to build was the letters in their names and their friends names.

 

We added shovels, rocks, sand, funnels, and measuring cups to our sensory table. The friends enjoyed digging in the sand, scooping up the rocks, measuring the materials in the table, and more!



Our blocks center was very popular throughout this unit! The friends used blueprints of various types of buildings and roadways to construct using the blocks in our center. The most popular design that they built was the bakery, school, and roads!


We are sad to see our Community Helpers unit come to an end and have loved learning about all the people who help us in our community. We will begin our Spring time unit on Monday and will be learning about Flowers and Gardening!

Pumpkins

Dear Banana's Families,     It has been so great having our friends back in the classroom this week; we missed them so much over our quarantine. We have had a busy week in our classroom learning about pumpkins! Take a look at everything we have been up to! In the art center this week, we painted pumpkins and used collage materials to create our own unique pumpkins!     We opened up our sensory table for the first time this year and explored play with water, pumpkins, and gourds. We experimented to see if the pumpkins and gourds would sink or float!  In the table toys center the friends identified and matched various pumpkin shapes with their friends. They also used the unifix cubes in the center to measure and count the height and width of the pumpkins we added to the center. Pets

Dear Banana's Families, It has been a great couple of weeks finishing off our animal unit learning about pets! Take a look at the various play and activities the friends engaged in around the classroom! In the math and table toys center the friends engaged in shape activities. They matched and sorted fish shapes into a fish bowl and created various pet cage shapes using unifix cubes. The friends also put their fine motor skills to use by lacing different pet shapes. In the science center, the friends used the microscope to look closely at different animals and made observations of their similarities, differences, and what makes the animals special. We also learned about animals habitats and had so much fun engaging in an animal matching game with our peers. Community Helpers: Dentist and Doctors

Hello Banana's Families, We have had so much FUN kicking off our community helper theme learning about dentist and doctors. Take a look at what we have been up to in the classroom! In the art center the friends created doctors' bags, used q tips to create skeletons, and tooth brushes to paint a happy tooth. Not pictured is the collage the friends created to show foods and drinks that are good for our teeth and bad for our teeth! In the block center the children designed and built hospitals and dentist offices! In the table toys center the children sorted pictures of foods and drinks that are good for our teeth and bad for our teeth.
